World Hoop Day St. Louis Wrap Up

November 15th, 2011 · News

We came, we saw, we learned, we hooped

World Hoop Day in St. Louis last weekend was a truly special event.  Featured were 8 workshops that consisted of several flow related arts and skill levels.  In addition to the workshops we hosted a hoop building workshop, a kids playshop, a hoop art show, and a stunning Art of Flow showcase.  Special guests in attendance included Sammy Sunshyne from Omaha and Luna Breeze from Kansas City.   Other hoop clubs got involved too!   Special thanks goes out to the Hoop Connections and T-Roy Hoop Club for all their help.

All our efforts produced a beautiful event filled with special moments and lots of spinning.  We were donated an astounding 118 hoops that will be given to the Shaw School in St. Louis as part of our contribution to improving kids lives with healthy activities.  We are excited about our growing relationship and future with the local school districts.

Stay tuned for a new event coming for Spring- early Summer!

The Hooping Life Screening in St. Louis

November 15th, 2011 · News

The STL Hoop Club and Hoop Connections from St.Charles are working hard to bring you all a new great event that will include a screening of The Hooping Life film in April or May of 2012. In order to bring this film to St. Louis we need to pay for the screening in advance. Our goal is to raise $500.00. Please help us by making a $20 contribution. Your contribution will secure you a ticket to the event or special perks if we screen the video for free. The overall event concept is still being decided.

Through interconnected stories, The Hooping Life takes the hula hoop from its origins as a child’s toy to its current status as club art form, teacher’s aid, and instrument of redemption. Filmed partly by the subjects themselves, and traveling from Burning Man to Time Square, from South Central to South Africa, the seven intimate portraits capture the birth and addictive growth of a new subculture.
