September 1st, 2011 · News

The STL Hoop Club is has added a new class for mind and body conditioning, Hatha yoga.  Yoga will be offered for a four week period on Saturdays at 10am starting on October 1st, 2011

Pat Taylor is a Registered Yoga Instructor and has been teaching since 2003. Her students come from all walks of life (college students, hoopers, athletes, and seniors). She currently teaches classes at Southwestern Illinois College, St. Clair of Assisi Church in O’Fallon, Illinois, and at her home studio. She has experience working with students with autism, anxiety/depression, and cancer survivors. Pat has also received specialized training to work with people suffering from scoliosis.

Pat Taylor Yoga Instructor

Pat teaches a combined style of Iyengar and Ashtanga depending on the students needs. Classes include vinyasa flow to energize the body and remove impurities through building natural heat. This strengthens the core and limbs, and trims the body. By applying proper alignment and emphasizing therapeutic technique, students will develop a better posture, flexibility, and a relaxed, serene attitude.

Beginner to intermediate levels encouraged to attend!

Class description:
You will learn the fundamental concepts and the terminology of contact staff manipulation, and the differences between it and basic staff manipulation. This first step will help you relate to more complex combinations in the future, and be versed in the standard terms the community uses to convey these concepts: Rolls vs wraps, pinch points vs control points, spirals vs propellers, palm spins, lifts and how to ‘just let go’. – The basic tools you have at your disposal when working with contact staff, these will help you to flow into contact from any pinch or control point – Moving on to simple contact weaves, neck, wrist, forearm, arm and shoulder wraps, static rolls (and continuous variations of each). By the end of this class you will have also learned about, and will likely execute: arm spirals, halos, conveyors, fishtails and potentially the ½ steve.
