Visiting Spin and Flow Professionals

The HoopPath to visit St. Louis

March 31st-April 1, 2012 from Carrboro, NC

In this two-part workshop series, we will bring our focus closely into the “Infinite Sphere,” the conceptual frame that recognizes that within the union of body and hoop there are an infinite number of possible combinations–new shapes that can only be made between your individual, unique body and your hoop. We will explore this sphere of possibility together.

We will begin on Day One with core fundamentals. Much of this work is based around the HoopPath approach, which I studied daily for four years. In core work, we build a relationship with the hoop *in motion.* Much as in our relationships with intimate friends and partners, we must allow the hoop to move freely, to go where it wants to go, in order to remain in relationship to it. This principle will help us understand how to grow and deepen this relationship.

On Day Two, we will expand our exploration to include greater swaths of Inner and Outer Space (the space between body and hoop, and beyond) as well as new ways to orient within the hoop, and techniques to broaden and lengthen the Point of Contact. We will learn new variations of paddles and breaks. No two workshops will ever be exactly the same; we always leave room for mystery, surprise, and delight.

All levels are welcome at this workshop. If you have never hooped before at all, please take the time to master waist hooping for at least 3-minute intervals with a large, adult-sized hoop. This hoop should reach up to your breastbone when standing one end on the floor. Experienced hoopers, not to worry–this will be a truly mixed-level workshop, with something for everybody to work on. Trust me.   Please also bring a blindfold if you have one (I will have extras), a snack if you need one, and plenty of water!

Visit the HoopPath website for more details.

Ninja Hoops from San Francisco, CA – Workshops in June

Co-Hosted with

Hoop Connections-St. Charles Hoop Club

June 17, 2012 – Spin Jam to immediatly follow! Please email info@stlhoopclub.com for details. //FROM Ninja Hoops.  As we wield our hoops with power and grace, many a hooper has channeled the ninja. A rare combination of subtlety and surprise, the art of Ninjutsu can be mysterious and elusive. Fortunately, Ninja Hoops is here to break it down nice and easy. Beginning with fundamental martial arts theory, and working up through the body, this workshop will give a thorough overview of how to hoop like a ninja master, moving your body and tool with intention, spatial awareness, and flow. Our workshop will cover stances and footwork, kicks and strikes, fanciness and flair, and even extend to some partner interaction. We’ll also learn how to increase our power, speed, and precision by accessing the vibrant and explosive energy behind the navel. This workshop is intended for those with at least basic hooping proficiency, and a particular comfort with hand hooping, but will be challenging and informative for hoopers of any physical background or experience level.  For more info about the Acro Spinning please visit www.hoopconnections.net.

Cost –Day Pass to either Acro Spinning or Ninja Hoops $45 / Weekend Pass to Both Workshops $80
